Recycle Right School Project
Think your school could use some help with recycling? Worried about how much waste is going to the landfill? Tackle a school recycling project!
The Recycle Right School Project is partially facilitated. Students will learn how to recycle right, perform a waste audit, and use that data to design a recycling awareness campaign for your school.
I. How to Recycle Right (45 minutes, facilitated)
A presentation and discussion to learn about Kitsap County’s waste and recycling systems, brainstorm the biggest challenges to recycling in the school, and encourage students to consider what improvements can be made.
II. Recycling Audit (30-45 minutes, facilitated)
A facilitated yet student-led recycling audit to collect data, make observations, and identify solutions to improve school recycling practices.
III. Recycling Improvement Project (Time varies, non-facilitated)
Students will design an awareness campaign (i.e., posters, announcements, assembly) to educate and encourage their peers to improve recycling practices.
Learning standards available upon request.
